Betfair announces directorate changesOnline gambling company Betfair has announced a number of directorate changes, including the appointment of Peter Rigby as a non-executive director and member of the remuneration committee

Rigby will assume his new position at the company on April 1, 2014.

His most recent role was chief executive officer of publishing and conference firm Informa, a position he had held from 1988 until his departure at the end of 2013.

Gerald Corbett, chairmen of Betfair, said: “Peter Rigby brings a wealth of experience in building and running a big public company, and I am delighted to welcome him to the board.”

In addition to Rigby’s appointment, Betfair also confirmed that Mike McTighe and Fru Hazlitt are to retire as non-executive directors with effect from March 31, 2014.

McTighe has been a director of Betfair since 2008 and also held the role of senior independent director and remuneration committee chairman. He was also a member of the audit committee and nomination committee.

Hazlitt was first appointed as a director of The Sporting Exchange in 2005 and become a non-executive director at Betfair when it was incorporated in 2008. He chaired the corporate responsibility committee and was also a member of the audit committee and nomination committee.

As a result of the changes, Ian Dyson, who has been a board member since 2010 and currently chairs the audient committee, will become the senior independent director and member of the nomination committee from March 31.

In addition, Leo Quinn has been appointed remuneration committee chairman and will also join the nomination committee, following his addition to the board on March 5.

Corbett has been appointed to replace Hazlitt as chair of the corporate responsibility committee, while Peter Jackson will also join the remuneration committee.

“Mike and Fru have both made immense contributions to the development of Betfair over many years,” Corbett said. “We wish them well, and thank them both for what they have done.”
