Bookmaker William Hill has confirmed that its service centre operation in the Philippine city of Manila has become the subject of an investigation by the Philippines National Bureau of Investigation into allegations relating to illegal gambling activities in the country.
The facility provides customer support and back office functions, primarily focusing on the bookmaker’s online business.
The operations of the facility were suspended as soon as the notice was served to William Hill.
In response to the allegations, William Hill said that it believes there are “no activities occurring in our Philippines operation which are contrary to law”.
The bookmaker noted that it is a member of the Government-run Philippine Economic Zone Authority scheme, which incentivises businesses to establish and run operations in the Philippines.
William Hill also said it complies with local laws and applies consistent global policies for its operations to abide by.
With the Manila operation now suspended, the bookmaker said it has implemented business continuity measures to provide cover for key operational services provided by the facility and is working over the short-term to ensure all services are covered to its normal standard of operation.
