DraftKings scores multi-year NHL partnership

US-based fantasy sports operator DraftKings has entered into a multi-year partnership with the NHL ice hockey league in North America.

Although the terms of the deal were not disclosed, it was confirmed that the partnership will commence in the 2015 season.

Under the agreement, DraftKings will become the official daily fantasy game of the NHL and will benefit from prominent branding placement across the league’s various digital platforms.

The operator will also serve as the presenting sponsor of daily video previews for each regular-season match on the NHL website as well as NHL Mobile and the league’s official application.

In addition, NHL fans will be invited to take part in free-to-enter DraftKings daily sports fantasy games for the chance to win prizes such as trips to premier NHL events.

“The National Hockey League is a best-in-class organisation, and DraftKings’ daily fantasy hockey players are some of their biggest fans,” DraftKings’ vice-president of business development, Jeremy Elbaum, said.

“DraftKings is proud to partner with the NHL to bring premium new experiences to the League’s enthusiastic fan base.”

Keith Wachtel, executive vice-president of global partnerships at the NHL, added: “Recognising the direct correlation between fantasy sports and fan engagement, we look forward to providing our fans with a new opportunity to extend and enhance their NHL experience each and every day of the season.”
