PokerStars acquires sports betting and slots licence in Spain

Amaya-owned online gaming brand PokerStars has been awarded a provisional licence to begin offering internet sports betting and slots games to players in the regulated Spanish market.

PokerStars already holds licences to provide online poker and casino table games in the country, but has now acquired the new licence from Spanish regulator the Dirección General de Ordenación del Juego (DGOJ) to further expand its services.

The operator has expanded its overall offering to include the provision of sports betting, with the new service having recently launched in the UK.

“We look forward to building on this by launching games under these new licences.”

PokerStars is one of a number of operators to have been handed a new licence in Spain as the country opens up its online gaming market to new services.
