FanDuel strengthens NBA presence with Hornets deal

US fantasy sports operator FanDuel has moved to enhance its presence in North America’s NBA basketball league by entering into a new multi-year partnership with the Charlotte Hornets.

Under the deal, the terms of which were not disclosed, FanDuel will become the team’s first-ever partner in the fantasy sports category.

Hornets fans will gain access to free-to-play online FanDuel games and possibly win a range of VIP experiences such as autographed merchandise and the chance to travel with the team to an away game.

FanDuel will also have activations at all Hornets watch parties during the 2015-16 season and will sponsor the ‘Fantasy Outlook of the Week’ segments on the franchise’s official website.

Other elements of the deal include courtside and LED signage inside the team’s Time Warner Cable Arena, in-venue scoreboard features and the ability to use Hornets logos and marks.

“We are pleased that this multi-faceted partnership provides our fans with the opportunity to win unique Hornets experiences by participating in FanDuel games,” Hornets president and chief operating officer Fred Whitfield said.

Nigel Eccles, chief executive and co-founder of FanDuel, added: “The Charlotte Hornets are a unique and incredible organisation that we are privileged to be partnering up with.

“With our new partnership, we will be able to provide unrivalled fan experiences and opportunities.”

The agreement will mark FanDuel’s latest partnership in the NBA, with the firm having already secured deals with a number of other teams.
