Dutch lotteries granted approval for merger

Dutch national lottery operators Staatsloterij and Sichting Nationale Sporttotlisator (SNS) have been granted approval by the country’s Council of Ministers to proceed with a planned merger.

The move comes after both operators announced plans to make cost savings due to a decline in ticket sales, with a number of strategies having been rolled out so far this year.

Staatsloterij currently operates the Dutch State Lotto and the Nederlands Sports TOTO products, while SNS focuses on its DE LOTTO single lottery service.

The operators will now merge to create a  unified Netherlands Lottery operator and product.

“The government has confidence in this merger,” Dutch Secretary of State for Finance, Eric Wiebes, said.

“The result will be an organisation that offers a safe and reliable gaming, both offline and online.

“The merged organisation will form a new state participation and the revenues generated by this participation will benefit the state, sports and charities.”
