Sportech CFO to step down to join Manchester United

London-listed betting operator Sportech plc has begun the search for a new chief financial officer to replace Cliff Baty, who will step down from the role to join Manchester United football club as CFO.

Baty has served with Sportech since May 2013, having previously worked as finance director at Ladbrokes.

Sportech said Monday that Baty will continue with his existing responsibilities during his contracted 12-month notice period, with his final departure date to confirmed in due course.

Commenting on Baty’s announced resignation, Sportech chief executive Ian Penrose said: “Cliff has been an important part of our management team since May 2013, and during that time, he has built a strong finance function across our international operations. On behalf of the board, I wish him every success.”

Sportech added that it is now conducting an internal and external search for Baty’s successor, and confirmed that discussions with Canada-based Contagious Gaming over a possible bid for the company are ongoing.

Commenting on the move to Manchester United, the club’s executive vice chairman Ed Woodward said: “We are very pleased to welcome Cliff to the club. He is a proven finance executive who brings a wealth of international business experience, and will be an excellent addition to our senior management team.”
