Fortuna cites mobile and online growth in first nine months

Fortuna Entertainment has cited the impact of growth within its mobile and online betting businesses as the main drivers behind a year-on-year increase in revenue during the nine months through to the end of September.

Total gross win during the nine-month period amounted to €105 million ($114.2 million), up 8.1% on the amount achieved by the same point last year.

Gross win from Fortuna’s online sports betting platforms increased 23.8% year-on-year during the period to €60 million, with gross win from the company’s entire sports betting business growing by 7.6% to €98.9 million.

Gross win from lottery came in at €6.1 million during the period, up 16.4% on the previous year, due to growth in numerical games and scratch cards.

The amounts staked by customers across the firm’s services jumped 25.1% to €615.1 million.

Total operating profit fell 19.6% year-on-year to €17.7 million, due to the fact that the Fifa World Cup national team football tournament took place in the same period last year.

However, Per Widerstrom, chief executive of Fortuna, noted that despite the absence of a major sports event in the period this year, the company was still able to post growth in other areas of the business.

“We are pleased to report on solid profitable growth for the first nine months of 2015 despite no big sport events such as the World Cup in 2014 as well as the abolishment of the online handling fee in Slovakia,” Widerstrom said.

“The main driver of our performance was expansion of internet and mobile sports betting in all Fortuna´s markets.”
