Betfred axes over 100 jobs as call centre closesBetfred has confirmed that it is to close its Wigan Tote Park call centre in a move that affect more than 100 jobs at the UK bookmaker.

The Wigan facility is due to close its doors by Decmeber 11, with the majority of job losses among part-time workers.

Betfred said it has found jobs for seven of the 14 full-time workers impacted by the call centre closure, while it hopes to redeploy most of the part-time staff.

The bookmaker took ownership of the facility in 2011 following its acquisition of former state-owned betting operator Tote.

John Haddock, chief executive of Betfred, said: “After a very detailed consultation with our staff at our Wigan call centre we have unfortunately, after reviewing all options, had to make the decision to close the operation.

“We have already secured jobs for a number of staff within Betfred and there are others who are considering taking up positions which are available within the company.

“We will continue to offer our full support to all staff who wish to find alternative employment within the Betfred Group or externally.

“Betfred management and local government agencies have been on site for a number of weeks helping staff with any questions and advice.”
