Sport Integrity Monitor (SportIM), Genius Sports Group’s subsidiary focused on monitor betting patterns for a range of sports, will look to ensure the Lithuanian Basketball League remains free from corruption through a new partnership agreement.
The Lithuanian Basketball League will use SportIM’s specialised basketball integrity product to monitor all betting activitiy across multiple territories during the league’s 180 annual events.
The solution is described as an integral part of the league’s core activities focused on protecting its events, players and staff from being exposed to unethical behaviour, as well as maintaining a high level of trust among players, fans, rights holders and sponsors.
Described as the first of its kind, the SportIM basketball monitoring system has exclusive access to live game data from more than 35,000 basketball events, supported by more than a decade of historic data, as well as live and historic odds from the global betting market.
It processes and monitors these data sets using sophisticated algorithms to identify anomalies in real time.
“Whilst we have never experienced an integrity issue at our league, we understand the fundamental need to do whatever we can to protect our events from exploitation,” Lithuanian Basketball League general director Romualdas Brazauskas said.
“As the most sophisticated bet monitoring system available, Sport Integrity Monitor was a logical choice for us. The fact that [SportIM] specifically understands basketball betting markets and produces real-time data and reporting on events around the world 24/7 were important factors in our decision.”
Genius Sports Group chief executive Mark Locke noted that basketball is Lithuania’s most popular sport and said he was excited to be working with the country’s highest-ranked league.
“The partnership demonstrates the league’s high level of commitment to protecting league events as well as their players, teams and employees from exposure to potential corruption.
“Crucially, the league recognises the significant value in taking a proactive approach to understanding how the global betting markets respond to their events and where there may be anomalies in betting patterns,” he explained.
