Macau gambling revenue slumps to five-year low in 2015

The Macau Gaming Inspection and Coordination Bureau has said that gambling revenue in the region fell to a five-year low of $30 billion (€27.5 billion) in 2015.

The figure represents a year-on-year decline of 34% in comparison with 2014, a year in which gambling revenue in Macau also fell significantly.

Confirmation of a full-year drop in revenue comes after the region suffered a 19th consecutive month of decline in December, with revenue in the month down by 20%.

The decline has been largely attributed to an ongoing campaign by the Chinese government to combat corruption in Macau’s gambling market.

Analysts have forecast further losses this year, with an overall decline in revenue of 13% predicted.
