The Tennis Integrity Unit (TIU) has said that it is to undertake an investigation of suspicious betting patterns during a match at the ongoing 2016 US Open.
The anti-corruption organisation said the first-round women’s singles match between Russia’s Vitalia Diatchenko and Timea Bacsinszky of Switzerland would be examined after it received an alert from betting organisations.
Bacsinszky, who is seeded 15th in the tournament, won the match 6-1 6-1 against world No.87 Diatchenko.
A TIU spokesman said: “We will assess, make a judgement and take appropriate action on the alert information received and obtained for the first-round singles match.
“It is important to appreciate that an alert on its own is not evidence of match-fixing.
“There are many reasons, other than corrupt activity, that can explain unusual betting patterns, such as incorrect odds-setting, well-informed betting, player fitness, fatigue and form, playing conditions and personal circumstances.”
