Former England international footballer Joey Barton is to be investigated over claims that he placed bets on a match involving a rival team.
The midfielder, who plays for Scottish Premiership side Rangers, is said to have gambled on Celtic’s 7-0 defeat by Spanish club Barcelona in the Uefa Champions League European competition.
Scottish Football Association (SFA) rules prohibit players, coaches, referees and coaches from wagering on football anywhere in the word.
The SFA is yet to officially comment on the matter.
Last week, Barton was suspended by his club following a training ground disagreement
