UKGC consults on changes to remote gambling, software standards

The UK Gambling Commission (UKGC) is to undertake a consultation on possible changes to its Remote Gambling and Software Technical Standards (RTS).

The assessment, the first full review of the RTS since it was published in July of 2007, comes after the publication of an updated testing strategy for compliance with remote gambling and software technical standards in May this year.

In a statement, the UKGC said the consultation “seeks to ensure consumers are provided with sufficient information to gamble responsibly whilst delivering an effective and proportionate regulatory framework”.

The UKGC said that this is achieved through the proposed introduction of new standards, such as the use of third-party software, live dealer standards and virtual sports betting, as well as the reinforcement of existing requirements, like the displaying of transactions and financial limits.

Industry members are invited to contribute to the consultation, with the UKGC to stage a number of teleconferences and workshops in early December in order to respond to specific queries concerning the draft proposals.
