Mohegan Gaming & Entertainment and Foxwoods Resort – with their partners FanDuel and DraftKings, respectively – have launched sports betting services in Connecticut.
The Mohegan-FanDuel partnership went live with the opening of Mohegan Sun Casino’s Bow & Arrow Sports Bar with a ribbon cutting ceremony at 9:30am EST yesterday (30 September).
The sports bar features a 140-foot high-definition video wall, along with a full bar and dining menu.
“To now be able to offer sports betting for Mohegan Sun guests is quite a thrill and a milestone that was a long time in the making,” said Jeff Hamilton, president and general manager of Mohegan Sun.
“This day wouldn’t have been possible without the dedication and tireless work from our parent company, MGE, my incredible team at Mohegan Sun, leadership with the Mohegan Tribe, Governor Lamont and the State of Connecticut, and our partners at FanDuel Group.”
Mohegan agreed the terms of the partnership with FanDuel in July after amending its previous deal with Kambi. The amended deal saw Mohegan agree to pay Kambi the revenue amount outlined in its original agreement.
Also launching yesterday, DraftKingsand the Mashantucket Pequot Tribal Nation began to offer sports betting at the tribe’s Foxwoods Resort Casino.
A temporary DraftKings sportsbook has been put in place at the Ultimate Race Book in Rainmaker Casino in Foxwoods. A permanent sportsbook is currently under construction.
Betting kiosks have also been placed throughout the resort.
“Today we celebrate a new era for our Mashantucket Pequot Tribal Nation, sports fans, Foxwoods guests and Connecticut residents,” said Rodney Butler, Mashantucket Pequot Tribal chairman.
“We thank Governor Lamont and his administration, regulators, and the many lawmakers who helped pave the way for legal sports betting and expanded gaming in the state.”
Both launches came to fruition after Governor Ned Lamont passed a tribal compact in March, stipulating that sports betting in Connecticut would be offered only through the state’s two tribal operators, Mohegan and the Mashantucket Pequot Tribe, and the state lottery. The lottery has partnered with Rush Street Interactive for its betting skin.
The compact also permits online casino, which may only be conducted by the tribes.
