Connecticut sports betting handle reaches $54.1m in opening 20 days

Consumers in Connecticut spent $54.1m (£40.7m/€47.9m) betting on sports online during the first 20 days of legal betting in the US state.

The state soft launched its legal online sports betting and igaming market on October 12, before proceeding with a full launch on October 19.

Players won a total of $48.7m wagering on sports online during the period, which, after deducting federal tax payments and promotional bet costs, left $3.5m in revenue for the three licensed operators in Connecticut.

The Mashantucket Pequot Tribe, which offers online sports wagering via a partnership with DraftKings, led the market with $2.7m in revenue from $23.8m in wagers.

The Mohegan Tribe and FanDuel ranked second with $609,520 in revenue, despite having a higher handle of $27.1m, then the Connecticut Lottery Corporation and partner Rush Street Interactive with $214,290 off $3.2m in bets.

Figures published by the Connecticut Department of Consumer Protection Gaming Division also revealed retail sports betting revenue, which came solely from the Connecticut Lottery Corporation, reached $212,705 in the opening 20 days, with players having wagered $541,856.

Turning to igaming and consumers spent a total of $312.9m on online casino games in just under three weeks.

Players won $303.9m from online casino and after accounting for promotional offers, this left $6.6m in revenue for the opening period of regulation in the state.

The Mashantucket Pequot Tribe also led the way in online casino with $3.6m in revenue from $189.6m in wagers, ahead of the Mohegan Tribe on $3.0m in revenue off $123.3m in bets.
