Betfred and DraftKings launch sportsbook products in Maryland

DraftKings and Betfred have become the latest operators to announce their entry into the Maryland sports betting market.

Betfred’s physical sportsbook will go live from today (November 18), while DraftKings’ sportsbook app is set to launch on November 23.

Both operators completed the mandatory early access test period, a measure implemented by the Maryland State Lottery & Gaming Control Agency, and paid the $500,000 application fee.

Maryland concluded its mobile sports wagering licensing process on October 21, having opened the process on September 7. The state is set to implement sports wagering soon, with operators receiving approval just days before several high-profile NFL games take place on Thanksgiving.

DraftKings’ mobile wagering app will allow players to place bets on same-game parlays, player props, special odds and boost selections.

“With an active sports season currently underway, we are thrilled to have the opportunity to launch our top-rated sportsbook app in Maryland,” said Matt Kalish, DraftKings co-founder and resident, DraftKings North America.

“Our product delivers fans an exciting sports betting experience, and we would like to thank the Maryland Lottery and Gaming Control Agency, the Sports Wagering Application Review Commission, Governor Hogan and the General Assembly for bringing online sports wagering to Maryland.”

Betfred’s sportsbooks – called Betfred’s Sportsbook at Long Shot’s – is currently at a temporary location while the permanent fixture is under construction.

The permanent location will feature a video wall, theatre-style and lounge seating and a food and beverage menu.

Betfred and Long Shot’s also recently received online betting licenses, and are set to launch an online betting platform in early 2023.

“We’re excited to open our seventh retail sportsbook in the United States and could not be happier to do so with the Long Shot’s team,” said Bryan Bennett, chief operating officer at Betfred sportsbook. “We look forward to leveraging Betfred’s 50 years of bookmaking experience to provide a first-class betting experience to the bettors of Frederick County and across Maryland.”

Earlier this week, Caesars announced the launch of its sportsbook app in the state.
