Genius Sports enters NFL data and betting deal with TSN+

Genius Sports has entered into a partnership with Canadian sports channel The Sports Network (TSN), wherein Genius will supply TSN’s streaming platform TSN+ with its proprietary data feed for NFL games.

Under the terms of the agreement, Genius will deliver its real-time overlays to TSN+ which will include graphics and visualization,s as well as its Next Gen Stats (NGS) data.

Since April 2021, the sports data business has been the official data partner of the league – an agreement which was expanded to include streaming options for US operators in November 2022.

Augmented feeds

The NFL NGS data will be augmented onto the TSN+ live broadcast, meaning that statistics such as the number of passes completed, rushing, passing and receiving yards will appear on the screen alongside the live action.

TSN is owned by telecommunications and media conglomerate BCE inc through its broadcast arm Bell Media.

“TSN+ allows fans to go deeper into TSN’s world-leading live sports portfolio with augmented feeds, multi-casts, and additional featured content from our marquee properties, including the NFL,” said Bell Media Sports vice president Shawn Redmond. “We’re thrilled to partner with Genius Sports to deliver these world-exclusive, data-enhanced augmented broadcasts for the NFL Playoffs and Super Bowl LVII to TSN+ users.”

Genius Sports CEO Mark Locke said the business was “thrilled” to be powering the streaming service.

“The NFL Playoffs and Super Bowl are world-renowned and we’re proud to be providing our full suite of broadcast augmentation tools to help bring fans closer to the action, transforming the way every play is experienced on TSN+.”

Streaming deals

The deal is not the first Canadian NFL streaming deal that Genius has penned.

In November, the data business, in partnership with the NFL, announced that it would provide three Canadian facing sportsbooks – Bet365, Bet99 and esports-orientated Rivalry – with video streaming services through Genius’ Watch & Bet solution.

Following the deal, Locke said: “We are delighted that the NFL has broadened its partnership with Genius Sports to become the exclusive provider of official data and live streaming content for sportsbooks across Canada.”
